RV driving on the highway along a line of trees
So you rode off into the sunset with your new Winnebago (or your Airstream, Jayco, Forest River… You get the idea). You took several camping trips in the new ride and enjoyed it a ton for the first several months. Maybe you even lived out of it full time. Then life happened and your camper sat in your storage facility or your driveway for months on end. All while you were making payments. The great news is that your rig doesn’t have to sit in a storage facility. Here’s everything you need to know about RV consignment.

What is RV consignment?

RV consignment is a way to make passive income while retaining ownership of your investment. In a consignment arrangement, a third party handles the details and delivery of the good or service on behalf of the owner. Just like a clothing consignment store, your payout is a significant portion of the total profit.

Why consider RV consignment?

While you could spend time and effort renting your rig yourself, you would be responsible for all the marketing, coordinating all the bookings, delivering the vehicle to rentals, running the rental to the repair shop, cleaning, maintenance, etc. Trust us, that takes time.

With RV consignment, you can easily bring in a passive income while we handle all of the details. The only responsibilities consignors have are financial –  monthly loan payments (if you have them), insurance, storage and repair/maintenance costs.

Can I still use my RV?

That’s the best part—you can still use your RV in a consignment arrangement. You have first right of refusal and the ability to block out any calendar dates you wish. We work around our consignors’ schedules, so you can enjoy your investment.

How much can I make?

Your potential profit depends on factors like the age of the vehicle, the number of days you have it available, and how many reviews have been built up in the review websites.

Outdoorsy has a handy rental calculator you can use to estimate the gross revenue of the vehicle. We estimate most consignors will make 35-40% of that number after expenses. So if you take their $50,000 gross estimate and make 40% of that, you’ll bring in an extra $20,000 a year.

Where do I learn more?

You’ve come to the right place. Far Out RV Rentals specializes in RV and camper consignments. We developed this business after realizing how we could fill a need in the market for premium RV experiences with our own class B rig. Because of the high level of service we provide renters, we were able to reach 55% occupancy within three months of beginning to rent our first vehicle (compared to the Austin,Texas short term rental average of 34%).

We also know this concept is pretty new to a lot of people, so there are no silly questions. Transparency is so important to us, and we will happily answer your questions.
