Why and how RV travel isn't what you think (it's better)

  • Wanderlust is in full effect these days. RVing is expected to continue growing in 2022 and beyond, after the pandemic challenged many travelers to rethink their plans. With transatlantic vacations canceled (or significantly delayed), travelers are rerouting trips to stay in the continental United States.

Plus, with the rise of small space living and minimalism, many people want to see what they could do or where they could go if they downsized.

In short, there’s never been a better time to rent an RV.

With an RV, you can explore different ways of living and different locales. What does that look like?

  • You can road trip, of course! Take an excursion to the East Coast, the West Coast, or even the Gulf Coast.

  • Use the RV as a transportation vehicle—you don’t have to sleep in your RV. You can use a sprinter van to get where you want to go, then stay the night in a hotel if that’s your preference. The journey is still comfortable, especially compared to a cramped car.

  • Go camping. State parks have RV hookups where you can enjoy electricity and plumbing while experiencing the outdoors.

  • Beach it in an exotic location (as long as you’re in the US). A trip to Destin or the beautiful Pacific beaches is even more fun when you experience everything you get to see along the way.

  • Take a cross-country winery (or brewery) tour. Did you know that many wineries will allow you to camp on their property? We don’t know many people that wouldn’t want to wake up in their comfortable bed to the view of a vineyard.

  • Take a working vacation. RVs can get WiFi anywhere there’s cellular service. That opens up the opportunity to work during the day at an RV park, then travel in the evenings to another city. For example, you could spend a week in a new place, traveling every week, then AirBnB your current home, if you wanted an extended change of scenery.

  • Visit family. In-laws’ house too cramped at Thanksgiving? There are RVs that fit in driveways (and they don’t look like Cousin Eddie’s). You’ll have your own space and be close to all of the action inside.

Ready to take your first trip?

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Decide what type of experience you want.
Do you want a trip that feels more like camping off the grid (but with a few of the creature comforts)? Or maybe you want to live like a minimalist so you can go sightseeing all across the US? What about a longer trip, where you can take home with you to a scenic destination? Maybe you even need an extra space for your holiday plans, where you can drive to see family and have your own separate sleeping quarters. RVs exist for any of those trips, so figure out what trip will relax you the most to determine what type of RV you need to look for.

  2. Research available rigs.
Now it’s time to hit Outdoorsy and RVShare. Put in your desired dates to see what’s available. Filter based on features you want and specific needs you have. It’s that easy.

  3. Weigh the features you really need for the trip.
Once you know what’s available, find the camper that’s right for you. If you’re just looking for a place to sleep, and plan to eat out rather than cook, a teardrop camper might be better for you. If you want a larger space, fit for more people, you might need a larger rig with slideouts and bedrooms (or one that provides an extra tent). If you plan to drive for a long time, or if you are dry camping, maybe you need an RV with a toilet. Coming up with a clear picture of what you want your trip to look like will help you identify the right vehicle for your trip.

  4. Submit your booking request.
This will allow you to connect with us about your trip, and you can ask additional questions about the vehicle. This is a great opportunity to triple check any details that were unclear in the original listing.

  1. Book your insurance and finalize your trip.
Once we accept the booking, you can select your desired insurance deductible (required for all bookings). After you’ve filled out those details, your trip will be all set. Just show up at the check-in time and we’ll walk you through everything you need for a good time.
